Who's to blame?

It's so easy to blame everything around us for the problems we face or the failure of our business - when in reality, the only person we have to blame is ourself!

When footfall and takings started dwindling in my high street shop, I blamed the number of empty shops, the lack of variety in the high street, the company that had moved it's offices (and therefore it's staff who shopped in their lunch hours) out of town, the council, the government...basically everyone & everything except me!

Looking back (hindsight is a wonderful thing), there are so many things I could have done differently; marketing, promotions, making the shop look better -inside and out.

Even though we can't always control the conditions and situations around us, they shouldn't influence our business. I know many, many high street businesses that have thrived during lockdown and since.

If you find yourself moaning about lack of customers, ask yourself what YOU can change - about yourself and your business - to ensure you are the 'go to' place on the high street, whatever you sell.
